Another day. Another funeral. Another ghost. Another average day in the life of young funeral home director, Emma Lee Raines. After a perilous run-in with a plastic Santa Claus, Emma Lee, co-owner of Eternal Slumber Funeral Home in Sleepy Hollow, Kentucky, sees the ghost of town gossip Ruthie Sue Payne, who is proving to be a real pain, more so in death than while living. Recently deceased, Ruthie reveals to Emma Lee that her demise wasn't caused by accidentally falling down the steps at the Sleepy Hollow Inn as everyone believes—she was pushed...murdered. In order for the ghost to cross over—and for Emma Lee to be rid of Ruthie for good—she must find a desperate killer...or risk being haunted forever.
I have found a new author to stalk…I mean love! Tonya Kappes’s, A Ghostly Undertaking is a humorous, page turning, southern mystery that kept me guessing right to the end.
The main character, Emma Lee Raines, is someone that you enjoy getting to know. She’s down to earth, funny, and full of southern charm and sass. Prior to her run-in with the plastic Santa Claus; Emma’s life was normal. She helped her sister run the family business, Eternal Slumber Funeral Home. She lived a quiet and somewhat boring life. All that changes when a head injury awakens her ability to see the dearly departed that are having a little trouble reaching their “eternal slumber”. Now she is teamed up with the recently deceased town gossip, Ruthie Sue Payne, as they try to solve the mystery of Ruthie’s death.
A Ghostly Undertaking was a fun and fast read that I really enjoyed. The characters were great and had me laughing out loud. The mystery has an interesting twist at the end that took me by surprise. There is one thing that I am still wondering about. Why were Ruthie’s clothes changed? My guess is that Emma Lee’s grandmother changed her clothes because as we all know a Southern lady wouldn’t want to be found dead in hot pink pajamas, kitty cat slippers, and her hair tucked into a night cap. But that’s just my guess.
I’m looking forward to reading more books by Tonya Kappes and can’t wait to see what adventures await Emma Lee as she helps Chicken Teater find his way into the light in the next book in the Beyond the Grave Series…A Ghostly Grave.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review.
Hollie Porter is the chairwoman of Generation Disillusioned: at twenty-five years old, she’s saddled with a job she hates, a boyfriend who’s all wrong for her, and a vexing inability to say no. She’s already near her breaking point, so when one caller too many kicks the bucket during Hollie’s 911 shift, she cashes in the Sweethearts’ Spa & Stay gift certificate from her dad and heads to Revelation Cove, British Columbia. One caveat: she’s going solo. Any sweethearts will have to be found on site.
Hollie hopes to find her beloved otters in the wilds of the Great White North, but instead she’s providing comic relief for staff and guests alike. Even Concierge Ryan, a former NHL star with bad knees and broken dreams, can’t stop her from stumbling from one (mis)adventure to another. Just when Hollie starts to think that a change of venue doesn’t mean a change in circumstances, the island works its charm and she starts to think she might have found the rejuvenation she so desperately desires. But then an uninvited guest crashes the party, forcing her to step out of the discomfort zone where she dwells and save the day … and maybe even herself in the process.
Welcome to my tour stop for Must Love Otters by Eliza Gordon. This is an adult romantic comedy and the tour runs February 24th- March 7th and will consist of reviews, guest posts, interviews and more. You can find the full schedule on the tour page.
Snarky, Laugh-Out-Loud, Fun— Those are the three words that I pick to describe Must Love Otters by Eliza Gordon.
The self-deprecating main character and her (mis) adventures had me laughing throughout. I loved her sarcastic wit and enjoyed seeing her come into her own as this story progressed. The synopsis does a great job of telling you all about Hollie and the crapfest that she believes is her life. What it doesn’t tell you is how dang funny she is. Her inner dialogue will have you giggling while at the same time remembering times when you have thought/felt the same. Hollie is a real character with problems that are easy to relate to and sympathize with. You can’t help but cheer her on and hope she works everything out by the end of the book.
This is the perfect book for those days where you want something light and fun. It is sure to brighten your mood and leave you with a smile.

Shocked but eager to get to know this captivating rocker, Lexie accepts Van’s invitation to see his next show, which requires an overnight stay. The overwhelming feelings that follow take them both by surprise, and with two months left before starting her sought after new position, Lexie joins the tour. As she’s catapulted into the world of groupies and wild parties, she questions Van’s commitment to her.
So what happens at summer’s end when time runs out?
First I would like to congratulate the author, Amy L. Gale, on a terrific writing debut! Blissful Tragedy is a “rocking” love story that is full of passion, doubt, and L-O-V-E.
The story is told in first person point of view through the voice and mind of 22-year-old Lexie Waters. Lexie is young, driven, and overwhelmed by the strong emotions she is feeling for Van.
Van Sinclair. Wow! I fell in love with Van right along with Lexie. He is definitely alpha-male, rockstar, yummy and you can’t help but sigh out loud at some of his actions. I would have loved to hear some of the story from his point of view but even without that we good a good idea of his character and feelings.
Conflict, drama, and passion abounds as these two terrific characters try to find a way to make two separate lives blend into one and discover that love takes work, trust, and above all commitment.
I recommend this to anyone that loves a love story that features a yummy hero that steals your heart right along with the heroine’s.
